Decoding Affine Variety Codes Using Gröbner Bases
We define a class of codes that we call affine variety codes. These codes are obtained by evaluating functions in the coordinate ring of an affine variety on all the Fq-rational points of the variety. We show that one can, at least in theory, decode these codes up to half the true minimum distance by using the theory of Gröbner bases. We extend results of A. B. Cooper and of X. Chen, I. S. Reed...
متن کاملGröbner Bases for Schubert Codes
We consider the problem of determining Gröbner bases of binomial ideals associated with linear error correcting codes. Computation of Gröbner bases of linear codes have become a topic of interest to many researchers in coding theory because of its several applications in decoding and error corrections. In this paper, Gröbner bases of linear codes associated to Grassmann varieties and Schubert v...
متن کاملGraver Bases and Universal Gröbner Bases for Linear Codes
Linear codes over any finite field can be associated to binomial ideals. Focussing on two specific instances, called the code ideal and the generalized code ideal, we present how these binomial ideals can be computed from toric ideals by substituting some variables. Drawing on this result we further show how their Graver bases as well as their universal Gröbner bases can be computed.
متن کاملGröbner bases for families of affine or projective schemes
Let I be an ideal of the polynomial ring A[x] = A[x1, . . . , xn] over the commutative, noetherian ring A. Geometrically I defines a family of affine schemes over Spec(A): For p ∈ Spec(A), the fibre over p is the closed subscheme of affine space over the residue field k(p), which is determined by the extension of I under the canonical map σp : A[x] → k(p)[x]. If I is homogeneous there is an ana...

Before surveying the results of the paper, we introduce path algebras. Path algebras play a central role in the representation theory of finite-dimensional algebras (Gabriel, 1980; Auslander et al., 1995; Bardzell, 1997) and the theory of Gröbner bases (Bergman, 1978; Mora, 1986; Farkas et al., 1993) has been an important tool in some results (Feustel et al., 1993; Green and Huang, 1995; Bardze...
